This just in. The next version of Apple's iTunes music player (due in a couple of months) is going to support podcasting. This is good news for podcasters and podcatchers (folks who listen to podcasts). Podcasts are downloadable audio shows in MP3 format.
Apple's move will probably mean that podcasters might actually be able to start charging for their shows. At first blush that may seem like bad news, but it's not. It means that the best 'casters can quit their day jobs and focus on their passion. I'm up for supporting that.
In related news, in a recent podcast (MP3 link), Adam Curry mentioned that he had an 1 1/2 hour chat with Steve Jobs, the CEO of Apple. The news he could share? It will soon be possible to record decent audio on the iPod. Right now, you can only record 8-bit, mono which is okay for college lectures and reporters' field notes, but not much else.
Looks like Apple's taking podcasting seriously. Good on them.
